So where is the Fantasy Rugby game now…

Now we’ve launched the blog page, it’s only fitting that we post something on it and where better to start than to tell you all about the journey so far and where we are aiming to get to.

Where are we going?

The short version is, we are aiming to build an exciting daily fantasy rugby game based around the Gallagher Premiership in time for the 24/25 season.

The long version is that we want to build a game which speaks to rugby fans, built exclusively for the rugby fan base. We want the game to be accessible to everyone, whether you want to dip in and out or whether you want to play every weekend of the season. We won’t put restrictions on, you can pick whoever you like each weekend and change it completely the next if that’s what you want. We’d like to give points not just for the flashy stuff, but also the hard yards that are many excellent players’ point of difference.

One key point of difference for us is giving prizes. We are going to be giving away significant cash prizes to all 20 of the weekly winners and an even BIGGER prize to the overall winner of the season! Hopefully that should be enough to excite more than a few of you. There are also some other prizes which we plan to use to engage the grassroots game which we all know is such an important part of the growth and sustainability of the Gallagher Premiership and Rugby overall. Provided your club has signed up with us (which is free) and you join and play in their league, your score will count towards your club’s score. The club with the highest score at the end of the season will win a complete new strip, along with some other pieces for the club, a value of over £2,000 for your club. We also want to support charity and as such we will donate 10% of any profit to a rugby charity.

How will we fund all this, I hear you ask? The game will have a free to play option which will give you basic access to the game and opportunity to win the prizes making sure the game is accessible for everyone, OR we will have a paid for option with weekly, monthly or season subscriptions which gives you the interactive selection tool, access to player data and a host of other benefits.

Where are we?

So, in the year or so since we’ve had the idea we’ve been quite busy. I know many of you will be disappointed to have to wait until the 24/25 premiership season, believe me…so are we. It had been our intention to launch in time for the 23/24 prem season but while trying to understand the regulatory environment it took much longer than we had hoped and so rather than rush and push out a half ready product we have opted to wait, we hope you will all agree that it will ultimately lead to a much more usable and enjoyable fan experience.

To date much of the work has been teeing up suppliers and getting administratively ready to begin the build. There is so much that goes into a platform like this, legal advice, designers, accountants, finding the seed money to start it, data suppliers, the game rules, marketing strategy and the list goes on. Much of this preliminary work is now done and we will be moving into the actual design process as of September which will hopefully be complete for November time, which we will obviously share with you to get your thoughts.

After that we will move into the development phase of the site and we should be ready for testing before the end of the 23 season, which excitingly for you means we will be able to test the system live on a number of games, so if you follow us on here you will get a chance to trial the game early and provide your feedback to make it the best game out there.
